The event started with a blessing service with Holy water by priest-in-charge Fr. Nikodemos Anagnostopoulos accompanied by Fr Evangelos Liassi and our chanters. Following this, the garden was officially opened by Councillor George Savva.

Father Nikodemos welcomed the parishioners and neighbours who had gathered and congratulated all the people who have made this project possible, by donating their time, talents or money. Father Nikodemos expressed what a blessing it was to have this space open in the neighbourhood to be enjoyed by all.

The ladies of the Auxiliary Committee, led by Myrofora Doukakis, provided refreshments to all the guests. Community president Michael Eracleous and committee members Yannis Ioannidis, Jordan Iordanou, Andrew Powell, joined by many young volunteers have been showing us their green fingers.

We also were visited by Councillor Chris Joannides, and parliamentary candidate Kate Osamor, standing for re-election as Edmonton MP on the 4th July.

Kate congratulated the community of St Demetrios on their engagement and outreach to the wider population of Edmonton, beyond just the Greek community.

The garden is a beautiful place to relax after Church, has been used by the Sunday School children, and is a lovely place for wedding photos.

The garden will be available for use as a community garden for the people of Edmonton.
